you had tears in your eyes and you were looking
for your family and I just kept saying “Oh God!
Please let his family be safe.”
Because we also had family that we couldn’t
even get in contact with and were praying for
their safety as well.
So I was feeling the pain with you.
JJL: yeah, exactly. It was very dramatic man. I
mean the whole thing was just a lot.
I can clearly recall that there was no way to get
into Haiti and I was coming from Los Angeles. I
had to fly to the Dominican Republic and the
American State came to get me on helicopter
that allowed me to depart from a small military
airport from the Dominican Republic.
I landed directly on the American Embassy
grounds, and that’s how I made it. I was
actually one of the very few people who were
actually able to do that, because everyone else
was stuck. Especially because the Americans
took control over the airport and they weren’t
allowing anyone from anywhere to come in.
In Santo Domingo, you had folks from all over
the world trying to come in. There were the
Argentinians, Chinese, French, even the Israelis.
The planes just could not fly into Haiti.
It wasn’t until I got in the helicopter and we
were approaching Haiti, that I started to see
the real devastation up in the air. I remember
looking down; and the live images of what
actually took place is what was so difficult to
find the words; but when I finally landed and
really had to start dealing with the reality of the
realness of the CATASTROPHE - that’s when
things really set in.
Although, the hardest part about that
catastrophic event was seeing dead people on
your right, left, and right in front of you. The

smell, the chaos, the anger, the discouragement
on people’s faces, the coming together of
people. Because of course, in a situation such
as this; we’re all the same.
So it was just a great learning process and all.
One thing that makes you not only appreciate
life differently; but it forces you to understand
where we stand, as a people. We’re nothing
to the world, but in our minds, we think we’re
everything.
FFM: That’s the truth! Man I can’t even contain
my excitement right now. It is truly an honor to
have the opportunity to interview you because
I’m so proud of you. I’m excited to know that
you are Haitian and that you have this kindred
spirit, you’re compassionate and are so loving... I
just want to genuinely say, “Thank You”.
JJL: Oh, you’re very welcome.
FFM: Not just for giving me your time but also
what you’ve done for US (as a Culture.) The way
that you represent US! You do a really fine job!
JJL: Thank you, so much.
FFM: Jimmy, I wish you nothing but God’s
greatness over your life and your endeavors. I
appreciate you immensely and I can’t wait to
see you and chill with you in person during our
Labor Day Weekend of Events.
