Our New Normal?

On this Labor Day weekend, we
celebrate the American labor
movement and the “contributions
workers have made to the
development, growth, endurance,
strength, security, prosperity,
productivity, laws, sustainability,
persistence, structure, and
well-being of the country”
while we continue to mourn
the 31 innocent lives lost
during the mass shootings
in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton,
Ohio last month.

past 4 years, this nation has averaged at least
1 mass shooting every 3 months. The Gun
Violence Archive, a nonprofit that tallies gun
violence in the United States, defines a mass
shooting as an incident where 4 or more
victims are shot or killed.
These shootings occur across all
demographics, in various public
places, and in spaces once
considered sacred. The increase
in frequency of these shootings
is alarming.
It is no coincidence that this
spike in mass shootings
coincides with
the rise of the
age of political
UR hearts and
prayers remain
with the families
of all the victims.
This tragedy begs the
looming question, “Is
it too soon to discuss
meaningful gun control?”
Mass shootings seem
to be occurring more
frequently. Over the
