Significant investments were
made in the development of
new affordable housing and the
renovation and rehabilitation of
existing multi-family units.
Included in this was a complete gut
rehabilitation and of four hundred
units in Town Park North, Town
Park South, and Town Park
Plaza at the cost of thirty-five
million dollars.
As it relates to economic
development, the
CRA, through the
commissioner’s
leadership, has
given grants
exceeding
twelve million
dollars to
existing
and startup
businesses.
Some of the
businesses
include: The
Dunn and Josephine Hotel, Groovin’
Bean Coffee Bar & Lounge, Harlem
Square Night Club, People’s BBQ,
and Lil’ GreenHouse Grill.
The commissioner is especially
proud of the fact that the CRA has
now attracted Red Rooster to the
former Clyde Killing’s Pool Room
in Overtown. Red Rooster is a
nationally recognized restaurant
headquartered in Harlem New
York.
Its owners are, Marcus
Samuelsson, an acclaimed
chef behind many
restaurants worldwide,
and his business
partner Derek
Fleming.
Mr. Samuelsson
owns other
restaurants
including Red
Rooster Harlem,
MARCUS Montreal,
and Marcus B&P in
Newark.
Samuelsson was the youngest
person to receive a three-star
review from The New York
