you first started?
ML: My love for educating
started by watching my
mother who was an educator
for 32 years.
I admired my mother’s passion to
make a difference that she had

which inspired me to want to
give, just like my mom and be a
beacon of hope for the youth.
In 1998, I opened my first
business, Leonard Reid
Learning Academy, Inc. in
Sarasota, FL. for low income
mothers in a low-income
housing area. It was in
Sarasota that I began my own
educational career as a social
science teacher, and later,
as an administrator of the
PAL (Police Athletic League
School). Later, I was named
the Principal of the Clearwater
Elementary School.
