THE DIS-CHEM FOUNDATION DONATE
R60 000 TOWARD THE FAIRY GODMOTHERS
Late last month during the Breakfast
Xpress show the Dis-Chem Foundation
announced that they have chosen to donate
much needed products and funds toward
registered Trust, the Fairy Godmothers.
Fairy Godmothers was founded in 2010
by Veronica Schmitt. Noticing that she had
lots of clothing that her little girl was not
making use of, Veronica started to post two
parcels a month to a lady who desperately
needed clothing for her children. Today, the
Fairy Godmothers function as a registered
Trust and has grown into an organisation
run and funded by mothers who are able to
donate baby clothing and items to assist
disadvantaged mothers.
Currently, Fairy Godmothers are
committed to send out 54 parcels made up
of clothing for babies, food, toiletries, goods
such as prams and cots as well as diapers
that need to go to mothers living in the
Free State, Johannesburg and Cape Town.
Most of the less fortunate mothers have
terminally ill children, and simply cannot
afford to fit the medical bills. Others are
teenage moms and retrenched parents
who are unemployed and cannot afford the
basic necessities.
As part of their Random Acts of
Kindness initiative, The Dis-Chem
Foundation did not hesitate to act on this
need and donated a R30 000 Dis-Chem
Pharmacy store card toward products for
these families, as well as a R30 000 cash
donation that the Fairy Godmothers can
utilise for much needed parcels.
“We feel so blessed to be able to help
mothers who do not have the means.
Thank you so much for the donation, it
really will go a long way,” said Veronica
Schmitt from Fairy Godmothers.
Penny Stein from the Dis-Chem Foundation
in turn said, “Veronica and all the mothers at
Fairy Godmothers really do amazing work. We
commend and applaud your dedication and feel
privileged to be able to assist.”
