FROM THE SIDE LINE AUGUST 2018 | Page 12

In this stage of the players development work on the fine motor skills needs to be continued.

Passing exercises can slowly be introduced but ball familiarization and dribbling skills are still the priority as players at this stage still do not like to share and for some will be a completely new concept to them.

Players will be motivated by fun games that hide technical requirements, basic tactical elements can be introduced as well as players working in pairs and groups.

Players in this stage still just want to have fun and do not like long instructions or explanations but respond better to live demonstrations.

They will be keen to show the coach what they can do or new skills they have learned, trial and error should be encouraged and constant praise for effort.

Around this age the players will start to play games (4 v 4)(5 v 5), against other clubs/ teams parent participation from the side line needs to be monitored

Players in this stage will start to develop a better understanding of concepts and will start becoming stronger and faster but still can not maintain the intensity or duration of older players.

Do these new skills get abused and do we forget they are still kids that still need a large focus on ball mastery and proper execution of techniques and constant encouragement? Do we treat them as small adults and expect them to just know how to do it and punish them when they don't?

Early developers will start emerging from the groups and how they are utilized may be the difference in developing players or winning games and stopping players from learning different positions.

Stage 4: Training To Train

Things are changing and I don't know why...

During this period players
