Coach Interview Anders Giske

A little intro about yourself past, present and future (where you see yourself coaching or where you want to be and how you got there).

I am 58 years old and grew up in Kristiansund, a city on the west coast of Norway. I played for my mother club IL Goma until I was 17 years old, and then two seasons for Kristiansund FK at the third highest level. Then I moved to Bergen and played three seasons for SK Brann while I conducted the military and studied sports. After the relegation in 1981, I moved to Oslo to continue my sports education at the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences. In this year I played for Lillestrøm SK before I returned to SK Brann in 1983. I spend the next nine years in Germany and played 200+ matches for FC Nürnberg, Bayer 04 Leverkusen and FC Cologne as a defender in the Bundesliga. I have 38 caps for Norway, the two last seasons as team captain.

During the last ten years I have spent a lot of time teaching players and coaches’ football skills and produced learning material for my last project “Giske Defending”.

“Giske Defending” is a virtual learning centre for coaches and players in football. The goal is to help players and coaches to solve their daily problems in the defensive part of the game. Over the past year, I have tested our first product about “the basic defending skills” in the market and I have got a lot of positive and constructive feedback.

In the future I see myself both as virtual coach and defence coach on the pitch for partners who cultivate innovation and digitalization.
