Housing assistance program enables students to focus on learning
Recognizing some students are homeless or in transitional housing situations , NWTC partnered with Family Services of Northeast Wisconsin to launch the Safe to Study Program / Homeless Student Housing Partnership .
Safe to Study assists NWTC students who are financially struggling to find and secure stable housing options – enabling them to successfully live independently and focus on their post-secondary education goals .
The program is made possible through a grant from the Basic Needs Giving Partnership of the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation , which includes the U . S . Venture Fund for Basic Needs , the J . J . Keller Foundation , and donors of the Community Foundation .
NWTC and Newcap partner to provide financial coaching
NWTC has a new partnership with Newcap Inc . to assist students with a wide array of financial counseling and coaching services . The Financial Capabilities Program helps students develop a comprehensive budget to understand their entire financial picture . That includes determining monthly costs of living , identifying all income sources and debt obligations , and developing a debt elimination strategy to achieve their goals . The partnership has provided a financial coach to regularly visit campus and meet with students one-on-one ; or during COVID , to schedule phone appointments .

Shared Harvest Food
Pantry at NWTC is to provide students in need with nutritious food so they can focus on their goals . Each week , students enrolled in at least one credit are eligible for a bag of groceries which provides food for one day . To expand efforts and address the issues of food insecurities and education , NWTC developed a collaboration with Paul ’ s Pantry .
Paul ’ s Pantry can offer a full cart of groceries weekly , but the service is often underutilized by students who are not aware of the partnership . Paul ’ s Pantry feeds more than 11,000 people within the Brown County area , distributing 16,000 pounds of food every day , five days a week .
Improving access to education and family-supporting careers
NWTC is working on new ways to connect people with low incomes to familysupporting careers . Thanks to a grant from the Kresge Foundation , NWTC is partnering with Forward Service Corporation to participate in Kresge ’ s Boosting Opportunities for Social and Economic Mobility ( BOOST ) initiative . With BOOST , individuals enrolled in Wisconsin Works through Forward Service Corporation will have improved access to educational opportunities at NWTC . The project is designed to create systems needed at NWTC to effectively work with underresourced students . BOOST assists students in seeing their full potential by allowing them to create their own dreams , with success being the ultimate goal .
Did you know NWTC rooms can be reserved for meetings , events , training , and more ?
Nonprofits , government and community groups , and businesses of all sizes are welcome to rent our facilities . For example , the Marinette & Oconto Counties Literacy Council is using a room at the North Coast Marine Manufacturing Training Center ® in downtown Marinette on Tuesdays to teach English to Spanish speaking community members .
