Dear Friends :
In times like these , I believe Northeast Wisconsin Technical College ( NWTC ) has never been more important to the students , businesses , and communities we serve . In addition to preparing people for essential roles that keep our communities economically and socially healthy , we have a responsibility to lead the way in responding to the needs of our increasingly diverse communities , addressing issues of equity and social justice , and ensuring the inclusion of all people in the social and economic benefits of the region .
While hate and racism endure in some parts of our nation , NWTC will continue to embrace all people of every color and gender . We will continue to provide learning opportunities that lead to family-sustaining careers and a sense of purpose for anyone who dares to dream big and soar higher .
Over the past 11 months , we have ramped up our diversity , equity , and inclusion ( DEI ) efforts even while we have focused on increasing the success of all students for the past 11 years . In 2010 NWTC became the first Wisconsin college to join Achieving the Dream ( ATD ), a national network of over 300 community colleges committed to student success .
Since joining ATD , NWTC has increased student persistence and credit completion as well as reduced equity gaps between student groups . Earlier this year , the College was recognized for its work with ATD ’ s highest honor , the Leah Meyer Austin Award . NWTC also achieved national acclaim from the Bellwether College Consortium for the 8-Week Advantage course model , an innovative strategy aimed at improving student success .
The honors validate that NWTC is doing transformative , innovative work that lifts up those we serve . Some recent examples : developing new academic programs in 3D printing and data analytics , finding ways to connect people of color with high pay careers , and joining Yale , Stanford , and others in exploring the benefits of extended reality in higher education and business .
In this issue of Friends , you will find stories about our fascinating students and alumni . You can also read more about the College ’ s DEI work , recent awards , and new programs . We never forget , however , that the College ’ s success is possible because of your continued support and encouragement . Thank you .
