Association of Community College Trustees Board of Directors welcomes Carla Hedtke
Metallica ’ s foundation partners with NWTC to make college possible
The Metallica Scholars Initiative , a program created by the rock band ’ s philanthropic foundation , All Within My Hands , and the American Association of Community Colleges , awarded NWTC $ 100,000 in scholarships to make college possible for students pursuing high-wage careers . The goal of the initiative is to support students looking to fill workforce shortages in skilled roles .
NWTC District Board member Carla Hedtke was elected to the Association of Community College Trustees ( ACCT ) Board of Directors representing the Central Region in October . As part of the ACCT Board , Hedtke will collaborate with college leaders across the nation to address student barriers and advocate for technical education .
“ The Metallica Scholars Initiative is so important to us because we are seeing results ,” said Lars Ulrich , Metallica . “ We are helping people fill these essential jobs which require skills and training . We are so proud and grateful that we can facilitate this program .”
The $ 100,000 in scholarship funds will go directly toward students pursuing programs in health sciences , construction , transportation , human services , and manufacturing .
“ This generous contribution paves the way for our students to explore high-paying , in-demand careers that will positively impact their lives and community . This is more than just a donation , it ’ s a gift that keeps on giving ,” said Crystal Harrison , NWTC Foundation director .
