THE EDEN STORY
Thinking about the Eden story,
how they had everything nice,
no teenage kids to drive them crazy,
and then along comes spin-doctor snake
with the latest thing, the WANT-device:
“Everyone’s doing it, have a taste.”
Now here’s the part I specially like:
Eve invents the Great Shopping Mantra,
the daily chant of “Gottahaveit!”
and Adam goes along, can’t fault
the ladies. Adam’s smitten: “Christ,
that’s smashing on you” — little black dress —
“why not buy two?”
for she’s resplendent
in worldly dazzle. He’s saying “Riiiight,”
he’s whispering suavely “Go for it, baby.”
Eyes closed, mouth open, he nods to her:
“sure, why not, pass us a bite.”
