Hello and welcome to an amazing place to live and study medicine !
At Liverpool you will have everything you need to make the most of your talents and prepare for a successful career ahead . It is a wonderful course and I hope that you will find it fascinating , make it your own and strive for excellence . Especially this year , as the most severe period of the pandemic appears to be subsiding , the staff and I are excitedly looking forward to seeing you on and around campus . We hope that you will enjoy being part of the fantastic student and staff community that is the School of Medicine , in the glorious City of Liverpool .
Rarely will any medical student , or doctor , complain of being bored ! The course and the career ahead are ‘ full on ’ opportunities to keep learning . However , it is important to balance those opportunities with friendship and fun .
I hope you will take time to preserve the creative and sporting talents that already give you joy and to have the courage to try new things . You will find lots of new groups and societies to explore , and I hope that you will find several to suit you and enjoy growing the teamwork and leadership skills that I know many of you already possess .
For generations , the LMSS has enabled student doctors to form friendships that have lasted the length of medical careers and beyond , and to be part of an outreach of care for others , through much successful fundraising . And taking time for friendships , and being kind to those around you , and yourself , is what will make the most of these exciting , precious and packed times that are the beginning of your life as a new student doctor .
