THE 7 WONDERS OF LIVERPOOL
By Hamish Baxter, 6th year
Welcome to Liverpool, a city renowned for its food, monuments, parks, nightclubs, football and
wheelies. If you are at all reticent about this city, then fret no more, you couldn’t be in a better
place and you won’t find yourself twiddling your thumbs. Listed below are the official LMSS 7
Wonders of Liverpool, all of which must be visited at some point during your time here.
1) Sefton park
Found at the heart of Liverpool suburbia, its 235 acres boasts a range of attractions
including a lake, grass, playgrounds and gardens. Students can be found gazing into
each others eyes, captivated by the romantic spirit of Sefton or floating above the
water during intense meditation sessions. Here, fresh air is in abundance so bring your
jam jars to take home to the smelly lad next door.
2) Three Graces
The Royal Liver Building, The Cunard Building and
the Port of Liverpool Building make up the ‘Three
Graces’. Constructed in the early 1900s, they’re a
reminder of Liverpool’s great shipping history and
define the beautiful skyline of Liverpool. They’re
still in use today and open to the public. Students
can be found on roof-top bars nearby juggling
espresso martinis and selfie sticks with the
Graces standing proudly behind them.
3) The Brookhouse Pub
Situated a minutes walk from Tesco Express,
Greenbank Fish Bar, Liver Laundrette and the
699 bus stop; what better place is there to grab
a pint and set up shop for a week or two? This is
the unofficial student pub of Smithdown Road and
a great place to have a cheap drink and socialise
after a hard days work. Sports teams will often
come down for a post training debrief and a bowl
of hot wings.
4) Cathedrals
Both Cathedrals of Liverpool stand tall over the cities skyline. The Anglican Cathedral took
70 years to build and is the longest cathedral in the world. These churches are majestic
attributes to the city and a peaceful place for prayer or self reflection. Students can often
be found running into the cathedral for a quick word with the Almighty before exams.
