Troop “S” Ready to Roll
U
nder the direction of Colonel/Superintendent Timothy Alben
and Lieutenant Colonel Edward Amodeo, Commander of
the Division of Field Services, the Tactical Operations Section
and Traffic Programs Section have been reorganized into
one new Troop – Troop “S” Special Operations. Under the
reorganization, the new Troop is commanded by Major Richard
Prior. The new Troop also includes three Captains: an Executive
Officer overseeing administrative, budget and personnel
issues; an Operations Officer overseeing functions such as daily
operations and training; and a Motor Vehicle Regulatory Section
(MVRS) Commander overseeing administrative and operational
functions of MVRS and also serving as liaison to the Registry
of Motor Vehicles. All three Captains report to the Troop “S”
Commander.
To standardize the Troop and create a uniform identity, all
members of the Troop will wear standardized specialty BDU
uniforms bearing the “Special Operations” moniker and newly
created Troop “S” collar ornaments. All Units that wear the
specialty uniform will wear a standardized cap bearing the
“Special Operations” designation. Individual patches and
designations for each Unit will no longer exist.
As previously mentioned, the new Troop is divided into Tactical
Operations and Traffic Operations. Tactical Operations consists
of the following units: STOP Team, Air Wing, Marine Unit,
Underwater Recovery Team, Motorcycle Unit, K-9 Section,
Crisis Negotiation Unit, Emergency Management (MEMA),
Special Emergency Response Team (SERT) and the Mounted
Unit. Traffic Operations consists of the following units:
Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section (CARS), Commercial
Vehicle Enforcement Section (CVES), Traffic Programs and the
Motor Vehicle Regulatory Section (MVRS) which includes the
Commercial Driver Licensing Unit, Compliance Unit, Salvage
Title Section and Vehicle Services Section.
“S” Troop is responsible for significant special event planning
and security, all sobriety checkpoint scheduling, and regularly
providing support to all divisions within the Department as well
as supporting our local and federal partners in both tactical and
traffic management functions.
