Veteran Saves the Day
On November 18 just after 11:00 a.m., Sergeant Todd Cambra assigned
to K-9 East, was patrolling Route 106 in New Bedford observed two
vehicles that State Police Dartmouth were looking for. The vehicles
were reported to be chasing each other in some sort of road rage
incident. Sergeant Cambra pulled both vehicles over. While speaking
to the occupants of both cars, Sergeant. Cambra learned that this was
a domestic violence situation. The male operator of one of the cars had
physically assaulted his pregnant girlfriend; she subsequently jumped
out of his car onto the side of the road. She had begun frantically waving
at passing vehicles to help her.
An 88-year-old U.S. Navy Veteran pulled over and, upon hearing her
story, told her to get in his car; he was driving her to get help. The
boyfriend began chasing them in his vehicle. This is when Sergeant.
Cambra observed them and conducted the motor vehicle stop. The
boyfriend was arrested on domestic violence charges.
