I think the thing that pissed me off the
most was that I loaned him my flip levers
after I crashed, then he went and won
gold and renamed it the Kamikaze Flip! I
went up to him and said “man, that’s lame
as f**k. You can’t do that!” We were good
friends, but that was pretty f**ked up of
him to take my trick, rename it and try and
claim it as his own. We’re cool now but I
still give him sh*t about it sometimes.

was really pissed afterward and

his way. I’d never spoken to him
before but he came up and said
that it was pretty f**ked up. It
wasn’t his fault that I got shafted
by sh*tty judging decisions,
but nah, he didn’t offer to swap
medals. That result lit a fire
under me for the FMX contest
though. I wanted gold or nothing
that next night.
It was pretty obvious that you
were fired up, and you threw a
killer run to win the gold medal
in the FMX comp.
Yeah it was awesome.
Everything flowed right, the
course was sick, I stuck all my
tricks and the four-rider format
is so much better than the headto-head they used after 2009.
But after my run I tried to be
a hero and ghosted my bike
Crusty style and I twanged
my knee. I knew straight away
something was wrong, but I still
went out and gave it a good
nudge that night. It was quite
funny because we went to the
wrong bar and everyone thought
I was a wannabe gangster with
two medals around my neck, but
we got drunk, found the right
party and carried on all night.
I got my knee drained the next
day and it was all blood. They
said I’d torn the ligament, so
that was the end of the contest
season for me. u
