TYLER BEREMAN © GARTH MILAN £ Tyler racing SX in Anaheim Stadium 2013 like the politics sometimes with racing. There can be a lot of bullsh*t corporate stuff.” Bereman says. “I like the laid-back lifestyle of freeriding, it suits my style more and it’s where I feel at home. I still love racing and want to get back to it but I would also like to learn the Flip and incorporate it into my freeriding. I think that would be huge and make me a lot more versatile on the race track and in the hills.” With freeriding on the rise, since the release of Jeremy Stenberg’s movie Chasing the Storm and Kris Foster’s #limelight edit and recent part in Moto 6, there’s no doubt that one day, you will be able to make a living just freeriding, being a badass lifestyle rider and imitating the business model of backcountry snowboarding or street skating. These industries market their athletes towards that side of their sports, unlike motocross where industry sponsors only base their marketing around contests and racing. “There’s no doubt in my mind that one day we will be able to make a living riding in the hills.” Bereman says. “When Jeremy Stenberg came out with his movie 420% All Natural and then his second one Chasing the Storm, he was putting freeriding back on the map, like back in the day with the Red Bull Ride to the Hills. I think there’s a huge market for us. There are so many skaters and snowboarders that go out to film all over the world and stack footage. Someday I know it’ll happen for moto freeriding too. There’s so much untapped terrain in our country and across the world for that matter and I’m just going to keep pushing it as hard as I can and hopefully in my lifetime of riding it’ll happen.” Having just got the all-clear to start doing some light trail riding, Bereman is optimistic for the 2015 season. Not looking to make the West Coast Supercross rounds, he says he wants to be 100% healed and prepared when he does line up on the starting line. This means that if he can find the funding, he’ll sign up and race the East Coast series rounds of the AMA Lites class. Good luck to Tyler on his racing comeback and we look forward to seeing him killing it in the hills. T FreestyleXtreme.com | 81
