FMX4EVER
£ Chris Brock
going big in the
Old City
As the guys headed to Mettet
and Antwerp, I headed out to
Jerusalem with Julien Mannon,
photographer David Blazek and
crew members Peter, Jordy and
Vodka. It was important to get as
much as possible done, before
the rest of the guys flew in on the
Monday morning. We needed to
unpack two containers of material
and brief the local production
with our full plan and needs. The
streets closed only hours before
the event, so time was tight and it
was important to avoid anything
that could fall in our path. Working
in a different environment always
brings in surprises. Certain things
you’d consider possible and easily
accessible in your country can
take hours to organise in a new
place, and other things you would
never be able to arrange at home
turn out to be no problem abroad.
I was amazed to see how calm
the Israelis could be, even in a
situation where a local transport
company told us that they are 2
minutes away every 15 minutes for
7 hours!
“
It’s always
special to do a
show in an area
where freestyle is
not burned out and
the crowd really
appreciates every
trick you do
”
It was Monday morning and
everything was set. FMX4Ever’s
head honcho Jimmy Verburgh
arrived with riders Chris Brock,
Gilles Dejong, Ales Liemann,
Ives Baekelandt and František
Máca. Unfortunately, Nick Franklin
went down in Mettet, broke his
collarbone and couldn’t join the
trip. After everyone had arrived, we
did a quick briefing and headed
out to our locations. We managed
to do two full set-ups in an hour
and a half. u
