NICKY HAYDEN
Not chosen for the
reason you might think.
Nicky took the number
69 from his dad, who
apparently used to
crash so much, he
needed a number that
could be just as easily
recognized when his
bike was upside down
in the dirt!

I definitely like to keep sharp. I
don’t ride so much supermotard
because it’s much more difficult
to do, and it’s not feasible in
Kentucky in the winter because
it’s not warm enough, but I still do
some when I can. I spend more
time in the dirt because I can do
it right at my house and I think
it’s maybe a little bit safer than
supermotard. Plus supermotard,
in some ways, is so much like
road racing, you’ve got to be
careful you don’t pick up a couple
of bad habits, like chatter and
use of the clutch etc. Now with
these MotoGP bikes I mean, you
don’t use the clutch, you’ve got
electronics. This differentiates dirt
track riding enough that although
you work the same muscles
when riding, you don’t need a full
session to get rid of a bad habit
you may have otherwise picked
up on a supermotard bike. u

practicing, or is it something
you still like to keep sharp?
