I F YOU MET BRODY Wilson on the street you wouldn’t imagine he’d be one of the world’s top FMX riders. He’s a polite, well-spoken, clean-cut guy (when a sweater and jeans hide his tatts) with an easy-going personality tinged with quiet confidence. He’s level-headed and gives you the impression that it would take something absolutely drastic to set him off. But beneath this persona is an absolute savage on a motorcycle. The Massachusetts-born Wilson has trick extension only rivaled by a handful of riders and his hardworking ethos is starting to pay off with regular shows with both the Nuclear Cowboyz and the Nitro Circus. FreestyleXtreme caught up with Brody at his beautiful home compound outside of Boston, MA, to find out a bit more about what makes him tick. Brody, you’ve hit a whole new level with your tricks and form this year. What’s brought about this surge? I guess I was pumped on getting invited to join the Nitro Circus Live tour last year and I wanted to ride well and make a good impression. I worked hard on making my tricks look big and super clean. Then during the Nuclear Cowboyz tour I got promoted to the leader role and that made me lift my riding and make sure I had a lot of big tricks dialed in. The last few years I could take the rest of the year off after Nuclear Cowboyz, but this year and next that won’t be happening as the Nitro Circus tour is going to be so busy! So where exactly are you based: Boston or in Southern California? Both actually, depending on the weather. During the winter months I live in Temecula with my girlfriend, Lauren, then during summer when it’s too hot to ride in California we move back home to Mass’ (Massachusetts). It works out really well for me with shows too: I have a bike at each place and fly back and forth, depending on where I’m scheduled to ride. “ I’ve got a lot of good tricks and my upright tricks are as good as anyone’s. If I had some bangers to go with them I think I’d be right there in the X-Fighters head-toheads ” Going back a few years you were one of the main riders in the IFMXF championship (now Night of the Jumps), and the only US rider. What made you jump over there and give that a shot? I’d been doing an IFMA ramp-toramp tour in the US and I wanted to get to bigger events outside of X Games and X-Fighters. The Night of the Jumps (NOTJ) tour used a lot of the same judges, so I thought it’d be a good build-up for the bigger competitions. I was based in Boston at the time, so it wasn’t that big a deal to fly to Europe for a few comps. It was a great experience too. I met a bunch of people who have helped open doors to the bigger shows I’m doing now, and it’s always fun travelling to different parts of the world. u £ Brody throws a textbook Rock Solid over a Massachusetts Sunset
