and a massive Bar Hop Backflip.
Then Frenchman David Rinaldo
put down a huge run that finished
with him landing the first California
Roll in the finals of NIGHT of the
JUMPs. His run secured him a
spot on the Hot Seat, as well as
showed the crowd why he’s the
current World Champion!
Rinaldo’s score wasn’t enough to
keep him there for long however,
as the judges awarded higher
marks to Spaniard Maikel Melero
for his big Doublegrab Flip, Surfer
Take-Off Tsunami and Flair off the
quarter pipe for his double-up.
Maikel’s super smooth style, total
consistency and big mix of tricks
really made an impact on the
judges. Australian Metal Mulisha
rider Rob Adelberg cleaned up his
run for the finals and put down
a huge Cliffhanger Flip, a super
commited Basejumper, a crazy
One-Handed Kiss of Death, and
finished his run with a massive
Tsunami Flip for his double-up.
Although the Australian’s run was
packed full of smooth big tricks,
it wasn’t enough to knock Melero
off the Hot Seat.
Last up was Rémi Bizouard,
who was still riding hard after a
big crash from an under-rotated
Backflip in practice. Bizouard’s
run started off super strong, but
perhaps that crash hurt more than
he let on, as it became apparent
he wasn’t quite on top form as the
run progressed. Rémi’s attempt
to dislodge Melero ended when
a small mistake on a Seat-Grab
trick bumped him down to fifth
place.
Finishing in third place behind
Melero and Adelberg was David
Rinaldo, who at least had the
consolation of picking up the
Rockwell Watch Best Trick award
for his California Roll. All in all,
not a bad comeback for the
Frenchman! u
