The Red Bull XRAY was a concept
that I dreamt up. It was a lot of
hard work but it was really cool
you know. We showcased one
of the first ever Speed and Style
events. We switched it up a lot.
We had a freestyle section and a
Speed and Style section, where
the freestylers and the racers
all raced together. The tricks
had played a component to the
race, taking time off your run.
So even though the racers were
a lot quicker, you could gain the
time back with a cool trick…
even if you got second you could
get more points for your tricks

and end up being in front - we
mashed it all up a bit! It was cool
for the spectators to watch too.
We had 20,000 people and just
a really cool event. We ran it for
three years and it got to the point
where people wanted more but
we ran into issues with the local
city and we had to shut it down.
We lost the venue. Then Red Bull
X-Fighters came to Australia and
the entire budget went there.

best riders that live there or are
just visiting, who will all come out
and showcase what can be done
on a badass course! Hopefully
we can make it happen. We have
looked at some land and Manley’s
been scouting spots out, so we
might have another XRAY style
event in the near future and we’ll
see what we can do with this
sport.
To be honest, the California thing
is something we’ve talked about
a lot lately. I’ve been working with
one of my friends Brian Manley,
who’s got a similar dream, so I
think we’re going to join forces
and try and do something in
California! Out there there’s a
lot more open land and private
properties that we can have
Freestyle Motocross is in need
of help, you know. We need to
change it from where it’s at right
now, as it’s totally dominated by
promoters: how much they want
to pay, where the event will be,
who can come etc. The riders
are like puppets, doing what the
promoters want them to do. I
think from all of that stuff, across

I
recently re-watched some
of the Red Bull XRAY videos
on YouTube. Would you ever
consider doing something
similar in California?
