GEORGE FECHTER

After just a few years of us
running shows, we had people
like Mad Mike Jones and the
Godfather of FMX Mike Metzger
saying that M.O.D is the world’s
best freestyle show. Over 500
people now have Masters of
Dirt tattoos. Even the Godfather
himself got his whole shin done!
I am so proud of all the people
involved in M.O.D - you guys are
amazing!
Do you remember the first ever
M.O.D show? How did it go?
Yes of course - I remember
it like it was yesterday. I was
super nervous (I guess everyone
was). It was a cold winter’s
day in Vienna back in 2007
and we performed two days
in a row - almost sold out. The
feedback was just insane. The
merchandising also made a
massive impact and everyone
immediately loved the idea and
the spirit of M.O.D.
What first got you into action
sports? Tell us a bit about your
background in this world of big
air and broken bones…
My neighbour Andi Brewi first
got me involved. I kept seeing
him wheeling by my house and
just always wanted to be that
dude (except for his haircut)
haha!
After begging my parents for
about a year I finally got a bike
and started riding with Andi and
his brother Christoph. We used
to watch the Crusty Demons
videos where Seth, Mad Mike,
Metz and co. were jumping in
the dunes and I quickly realized
this needs to be put into venues
all over the world entertaining
young and old.
Over the years I managed to
become a pretty good MTB rider.
I am actually the first Austrian
to ever backflip a mountain
bike, which I did back in 2005
and I am still the only Austrian
who ever landed a 360 backflip.
Those are the highlights of my
“biking career”, but I definitely
