GEORGE FECHTER £ Georgie getting down on his MTB After just a few years of us running shows, we had people like Mad Mike Jones and the Godfather of FMX Mike Metzger saying that M.O.D is the world’s best freestyle show. Over 500 people now have Masters of Dirt tattoos. Even the Godfather himself got his whole shin done! I am so proud of all the people involved in M.O.D - you guys are amazing! Do you remember the first ever M.O.D show? How did it go? Yes of course - I remember it like it was yesterday. I was super nervous (I guess everyone was). It was a cold winter’s day in Vienna back in 2007 and we performed two days in a row - almost sold out. The feedback was just insane. The merchandising also made a massive impact and everyone immediately loved the idea and the spirit of M.O.D. What first got you into action sports? Tell us a bit about your background in this world of big air and broken bones… My neighbour Andi Brewi first got me involved. I kept seeing him wheeling by my house and just always wanted to be that dude (except for his haircut) haha! After begging my parents for about a year I finally got a bike and started riding with Andi and his brother Christoph. We used to watch the Crusty Demons videos where Seth, Mad Mike, Metz and co. were jumping in the dunes and I quickly realized this needs to be put into venues all over the world entertaining young and old. Over the years I managed to become a pretty good MTB rider. I am actually the first Austrian to ever backflip a mountain bike, which I did back in 2005 and I am still the only Austrian who ever landed a 360 backflip.
