____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Bottom line: Under My Wing is an insanely cool and underrated project. In a time when freestyle motocross is in desperate need of helping up-and-comers find a path, not many other riders or companies are doing anything about it - but Mat Rebeaud and Red Bull have stepped up. Respect! With a new Pro–Am FMX series, ‘Dirt Junkies’, also starting up around the UK, the young FMX heads will soon have a legit platform to showcase what they’ve learned, and progress their new FMX riding skills to a competition level. The future of FMX is looking bright in England! T FreestyleXtreme.com | 121 ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The day wound down with a big BBQ, cold Red Bulls, some tunes and a few laughs. Everyone stayed safe, and left with sparks of excitement and motivation in their eyes. Have you seen any riders at an Under My Wing day and thought to yourself – ‘he’s got what it takes’? Yeah for sure, and looking around today I’d say all the kids riding here have a real chance of becoming good FMX riders. It takes time, but today we had one kid, Tate Scarry who is only nine years old and jumping 10m ramp gaps, so it’s really positive. At the end of the day it always comes down to the rider you know – you have to work hard to make the dream come true. How big an impact do you think the Under My Wing programme will have on FMX? And what about yourself man - how has this season gone for you? It’s gone good - it’s great to be back riding X-Fighters. I was happy with my results; 5th in Osaka and 8th in Madrid. Madrid was pretty special this year the level of riding and the runs everyone was putting down were just unbelievable. I think I’m close to getting up on that podium and being back on top. I just need to put in the work. It was pretty funny actually because at the two rounds I rode this year I was the oldest guy on the tour, and in 2005 I was the youngest! It’s just so much fun to still be in the game. Rad! Have you got any new tricks to bring to the table? Yeah I actually just learned the 540 Indy. I’ve got it down in the foam pit, but I’ll throw it on dirt in two weeks at the Freestyle.CZ. Hopefully I land it (laughs). Thanks man. We wish you the best of luck with the programme in the future and of course with your new trick at Freestyle.CZ. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ It’s hard to say at this stage, ask me in ten years haha. My dream would be to see a kid from the Under My Wing programme winning the Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour in ten years – that would be pretty sweet (laughs). ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
