Across all disciplines at these events, the level of riding, the courses, the
event concepts and the media coverage have all improved over the last
five years or so. This is reflected not only in the rising numbers in crowds
attending events but also in the increasing number of viewers. This event
boom however, doesn’t seem to be having a very positive effect on the
biggest action sports contest of all: X Games. At least not from a freestyle
motocross point of view. Following their controversial removal of Moto X
Best Trick, their unpopular twitter based judging systems, as well as the
struggles they’ve had putting on successful freestyle motocross contests
over the last few years, 2015 may be the turning point for X Games. There
is a lot of pressure on next year’s event, where X Games will need to show
they still deserve their long-held unofficial title as the pinnacle event for
FMX. A title that may already be lost in the eyes of some FMX fans and
riders alike.
Although most outdoor events are wrapped up for this year, Night of
the Jumps will keep the torch burning for FMX throughout the winter in
Europe, while on the other side of the world all eyes will be on the booming
Australian FMX Championships. To help combat the New Year blues, we
strongly recommend getting stuck into the epic AMA Supercross series,
kicking off in Anaheim, CA on Jan 3rd!
Of course during this spell of bad winter weather, freezing temperatures
and not so much outdoor action, comes Christmas! The festive season
offers pro athletes the chance to relax, heal up and mentally prepare
for the season ahead. It also gives us fans and underground riders the
chance to get fat, watch videos and stock up on all the sickest gear
needed for next year (at the cost of our loved ones!) If you’re in need of
s ome fresh Christmas inspiration this year, be sure to check out our FsX
guide to Christmas on page 50.
I hope you enjoy this issue and on behalf of the whole team at
FreestyleXtreme, we wish you all a very merry Christmas and a badass
New Year. Big up Saint Nick!
Ride on.
