On The Couch... GRID returns - plus a more analogue offering from Guy Martin... We all need to take some down-time now and again. Here we look at the best ways to stay entertained when trapped indoors with our guide to the latest videos, books, games and more. GRID Autosport Codemasters Microsoft Windows / Playstation 3 / Xbox 360 Out Now Game Review The latest instalment of the GRID video game series has finally arrived! The good people at Codemasters have recently released GRID Autosport, and after sitting down and playing this game until the batteries in my controller were dead, you can believe me when I say this game won’t disappoint! Image: Codemasters The concept of Autosport is simple – you’re playing a pro driver for hire. You can focus on your favourite driving disciplines or try and rule them all as you start working your way to the top by driving for bigger and better teams as you progress. One thing this game is not short of is variety – whatever type of tarmac racing you’re into this game will supply your fix. You can choose from: Touring Cars, GT, Single Seaters, Muscle Cars, Drift, Supercars, Hypercars and loads more! I loved the way you can select which type of driving you want to do and you’re not forced to race a rigid career. There are hundreds of routes and locations including circuits such as Hockenheimring, Mount Panorama, Circuit of the GRID gets back on track Americas, Red Bull Ring, and city tracks in Barcelona, Chicago, Dubai, Paris, San Francisco to name a few! prefer playing games with friends who are in the same room as you, don’t panic: Autosport offers a cool split screen option, so you can play co-op or player vs player with your buddies. Overall the graphics are impressive, the locations are interesting and realistic, the cars look really cool and are super fun to drive and the racing will have you on the edge of your seat, shouting at the TV. The main developments that have been added since the last GRID include a new in-car view option and improved Authentic Handling. I thought the in-car view was alright, but not the best I’ve seen. The Authentic Handling has found a good mix of arcade and simulation style handling. The game play is easy to get the hang of and quite forgiving when you’re learning, but at the same time tricky to fully master and to consistently stay on the podium. Of all the GRID games I’ve played this was definitely my favourite, mainly due to the huge level of variety and choice to drive whatever disciplines you feel like. The music could definitely be improved a bit, and although the visual detail might not be at the level of Gran Turismo 6, that true racing driver feeling you get when playing Autosport is second to none. If you’re after the ultimate ‘all-round’ racing game – be sure to check out GRID Autosport. T If playing online is your thing, Codemasters have got you covered with a cool RaceNet community.
