he alarm is ringing.
It’s a grey, wet Monday
morning. I am entombed
in warmth and overcome
with that horrible start
of the week feeling.
And then I remember: today I wasn’t
ploughing down the M32 with the
rest of tired Bristol but grabbing by
board bag and jetting off for a week
snowboarding in the stunning French
Alps with the DC crew. Mondays have
never felt so good.
We arrive in Geneva and make
the journey through snow-capped
mountains. Our noses pressed up
against the windows gazing excitedly
at the result of yesterday’s super
snow-fall. As we approach Méribel,
the roads take us through deep dark
woods, past wooden cabins and
animal tracks in the thick powder.
It was a little hard to find the chalet,
as DC work hard to keep its exact
location a bit of a secret. But after a
couple wrong turns, we pulled up to
a thing of beauty - the large infamous
DC logo dominating the first-floor
balcony assured us we had arrived.
The chalet stood majestically, with
its pine wood exterior in a snow filled
valley and smoke drifting out of its
chimneys – a sure sign the fires were
lit and eagerly awaiting our arrival.
As I struggled through the snow
with my board bag, I noticed a few
kickers, drops and even a rail that had
clearly been purposefully built around
the Chalet. This was a location for
snowboarding hedonism and I was
beyond excited about the week that
lay ahead. u
