REVIEW: CHASING THE STORM
FROM THE PREMIERE
to SoCal’s freeride spots only
accessible with shovels like
Ocotillo Wells, Temecula and
freeriding’s most influential and
historical spots Beaumont and
Reche Canyon. These areas
were home for several trips
whilst filming, and hosted some
of Hansen and Stenberg’s most
insane highlights in the film. They
locked themselves into a heated
Turn Up battle - a sight so sick
that it even had multi-time AMA
National champion Jeff Emig in
awe! Who won that battle - well
you’ll just have to check out the
film for yourself - but I can assure
you: you will not be disappointed!
Monster Energy Pro Circuit
SX rider and all-round badass
style-king-on-a-dirt-bike Darryn
Durham simply annihilated one
cliff jump in particular. Following
a huge hill climb in order to get to
the actual lip, he then went and
threw a huge Upside-down Whip,
cresting 10-15 feet high above the
ridgeline. He then continued to
push the limits of his own abilities
with a crazy 180, landing back
down the hill that he just jumped
up.
Grateful to experience the hills
for the first time was all-round
absolute Jedi ninja warrior (if one
can assume so many titles) Taka
Higashino. He wasted no time in
showing us why he should not be
underestimated in the hills, and
that he has every right to carry the
title of freeride master as well as
FMX competition legend.
Chasing The Storm will not
disappoint. The talent pool of
riders runs as deep as the day
is long and the sky is blue (if
you live in southern California).
The film pulls influence perfectly
from the Crusty Demons of Dirt,
Moto XXX and Terrafirma days,
with camaraderie so deep that
you immediately get up after the
film’s finished to pin it straight to
your favourite local riding spot,
in hope that all of that influence,
inspiration and motivation from
watching Chasing The Storm
leads you to the best day’s
riding you’ve had in a long time.
You’re also left with a massive
reassurance as to why you eat,
sleep, and breathe this so called
life we call motocross! T
