X GAMES AUSTIN £ Mike Clark going big on the BMX dirt jumps and constantly on two wheels! Sheldon Creed took home the silver medal and Robby Gordon crossed the line right behind him to earn himself the bronze. The Ford Rallycross worked itself to an epic final in Austin. Scott Speed used his silky smooth F1 driving skills to hold first position from the off, claiming his second X Games gold medal and quite simply ruling the track like an absolute Boss! X Games Vert skater and eight-time gold medallist Bucky Lasek put in an awesome drive to clinch second place. His consistent, determined and confident skills behind the wheel brought him his first silver at an X Games rally event – bringing his total count of X Games medals to twenty. Nelson Piquet Jr. won his first X Games medal, taking home the bronze. It was a great final to watch, but would have been a frustrating one for British Monster Energy driver Liam Doran, who spun out with a flat tire on the last corner allowing Nelson Piquet Jr. to cruise past to collect his medal. Over at the BMX Dirt competition, the top riders were throwing down some simply unbelievable tricks on the big, immaculate jumps. Australian Kyle Baldock, who won BMX Dirt gold at X Games Foz do Iguaçu in 2013, claimed the top position in his first run. He finished off his epic run with a super smooth Bar Spin Back Flip, awarding him a score of 92.33. Despite his lead, Baldock stepped up his game, and finished his third run with a massive Front Flip Lawn Dart that sealed his gold medal with a score of 95.00. Ben Wallace placed second with a 90.33 putting some huge NoHanded Back Flips into his run, and Brandon Dosch went home with the bronze after showcasing perfect 720’s and a sick Triple Whip. The weather might have added a further challenge to the athletes, but X Games Austin still managed to produce some of the best moto, skateboard, BMX and four-wheel action ever witnessed. Medals were won, sports progressed, bones were broken and good times were had by all. Bring on 2015! T FreestyleXtreme | 139
