Hoonigan Racing Division officially
unveiled their latest build: the 1978 Ford
Escort Mk2 RS live for the first time at
Santa Pod. Originally Block bought this
car to do stage rallies, but at that point
he was still driving for Subaru. “Subaru
let me buy this old Ford because it
didn’t really compete with their latest
model,” he explained. “So I bought it
with the occasional rear-wheel-drive
stage rally in mind, but unfortunately the
one I bought was more of a light tarmac
build, and just not strong enough to
race on gravel. It kept breaking and kept
breaking, and after a while I was like,
‘Ok, I need to ship this thing back to
England to get it fixed.’ The plan was to

car or maybe something else…”

“It was an incredibly fun weekend and
I loved watching the guys battle it out,”
said Block after the finals. “Trying to
get the massive Hoonicorn around the
course was a real challenge today and
it’s the first time I’ve properly raced it.
Dmitrij had an amazing drive in our oneon-one, so well done to him! Thanks
to Monster for organising such a great
event and to all the fans who came to
see us. I can’t wait to see how we top
this next year!”
