Whilst talking to the teams and riders
in the pits, it became clear this race
and its uniqueness is welcomed.

The MEC has always been different
and that’s the whole idea. The aim is
for it to be something other than just
an 18th round of supercross. Three
ten-lap mains, a joker lane each
rider must take once in each main,
a unique track, as well as supermini
and amateur all-star races, definitely
indicate that this isn’t your run-of-themill supercross race.
“I like it, it’s something different,” said
JGR Yamaha team manager Jeremy
Albrecht. “We’re trying different stuff.
I like the downhill start, I’m even good
with the joker lane idea. This is a good
little place to test some ideas. I hope
some of it makes it to supercross. The
racing was super good tonight. The lap
times were so dang close. I’m a fan.
I’m good with all of it.”
The folks at Feld Entertainment have
changed the Amsoil Arenacross series
format in recent years and when you
think about the MEC format, there’s
no doubt that they’re looking at what
works for exciting racing and what
doesn’t. It’ll be interesting to see what
they do going forward and seeing as
the MEC is held in Vegas (along with
the final round of the SX season), let’s
place a bet on some of the things
we saw at the cup making it into the
Monster Energy Supercross series in
the future.
