EDGAR TORRENTERAS the Supercross section followed immediately by the explosion of emotions when you hit the ramp. Probably in the future we will be able to increase the number of corners, jumps and ramps. What was your training like leading up to X Games? Last year I finished work on my Supercross track which now has lots of different jumps, whoops and corners. It’s quite technical, and I can say that it looks a lot like what you would find at the X Games. Before I had the track I couldn’t really put down laps and exercise, so I would mainly just ride the freestyle ramps. Now I train a lot more, not because I have to, but because I like to ride the track. Leading up to X Games I trained every day for 5-6 hours, usually I did 4 laps and 3 tricks like at the X Games but then soon I was doing 5 laps and 5 tricks off the ramp. I love working and riding hard, and then you get that great feeling of being tired in the evening. How do you train off the bike? I work hard to put in the hours swimming. It’s so important to have a body that is always ready and flexible when you jump. Years ago we used to work so hard in the gym, but it was not really that efficient for freestyle, because you want the outcome to be speed and agility rather than sheer strength. Do you have any other passions or hobbies? Yes, of course. I really like to play with my radio controlled car - I used to be Spanish champion. I like DJ-ing and beatboxing as well as graffiti and wakeboarding. When I have free time now I try to spend as much of it as possible with my wife. We know a special kid, Matej Cesak (13) that is now part of the FMX scene. What do you think about him? Will he be the future of FMX? I think Matej has a natural gift for freestyle motocross and has a very unique style. I think that kid could do most tricks with his eyes closed. I see myself in him when I was very young. When the Masters of Dirt was in Vienna, we rode next to each other and I felt like I was jumping with my son. Matej has already done the hard part, now he just needs to mature, work on his riding and he will frighten everyone! Who will be the next Edgar Torronteras? It’s definitely Matej, and I will help him with his training when I have more time. Last question - How do you think this sport will evolve? I think if we keep in this direction the sport will evolve well. We should be careful to not only think about the money side of things, because it is not good, and that won’t help the sport in the long run. I’ll tell you a secret, but keep it to yourself ... no problem it’s just me and you here ... hahaha .. I would like to organize an amateur FMX championship for riders up to 21 years old. This is the only way to discover the true hidden talent out there! Look out for this – when it goes down everything will change!
