bit of support, so it was the guys back in the day
helping me out that instilled in me to reciprocate
the same generosity. And look at him now, he’s
one of the best dudes in the world and on top of
his game.”
Taka remembers his first few days staying with
Stenberg: “I was watching him on DVD in Japan,
he’s my hero too. When I met him I’m so excited,
but he asked me to stay at his house!? WTF? It’s
only in dreams this happens. I can’t sleep deep
for first month (laughs) thinking here is Twitch, I
sleep in his house.
“It make me nervous, then Twitch and Susan
help me to get my athlete visa for USA. They
hook me up with all sponsors. I’m really happy to
get help from my hero; I get a lot of motivation.
If they don’t help me that time, I’m not here now!
I want to say to them big thank you and one day
I can help them and I can help new kids like he
did to help me.”
Keeping in line with that mentality of giving back
and supporting the sport that has supported him
so much, Stenberg has taken a keen interest in
pushing natural terrain riding, or freeriding, in the
direction of that of backcountry snowboarding,
where guys make a living just filming video parts.
“And that’s the same way I’m looking at
freeriding. If there is anything I can do to help
out guys like Carbone and the #Nonamers, I’m
all about it because I know and believe in them
and what they’ll do for freeriding as a whole,
and it becoming an integrated part of the DBK
theme.” Stenberg says about the freeriding
influence DBK has.
Working on his second video, Stenberg says
that with a few more film trips, he’ll have one of
the sickest videos ever to hit the market, taking
all the coolest factors he likes from videos he’s
watched from day one, and combining them all
into one - his latest and greatest.
“Yeah, we’ve been filming our asses
off.
