MORGAN HILL CELEBRATES LOCAL AND NATIONAL PARKS!
W
elcome to Morgan Hill! We are so glad that you chose our wonderful city as your destination for the
annual celebration of our nation’s founding. This year we are celebrating America’s National Parks and it
is so appropriate to be doing it here in Morgan Hill where you can fi nd many and varied outdoor venues
that, while they may not have all the grandeur of our National Parks, are wonderful places to recreate or to enjoy a
relaxing respite.
The 88,000 acre Coe Park a few miles east of town presents fantastic opportunities for those that want to rough it
in true wilderness while our much, much smaller but a lways crowded Pop-up Park at the corner of 2nd and Monterey
presents opportunities for children of any age to pursue fantasies and fun. The Pop-up Park will soon be replaced by
three new downtown parks. We also have a plethora of community and neighborhood parks and recreational facilities
here as well. Like our National Parks, our local parks and recreation venues truly refl ect the spirit of the United States
as a place for freedom, opportunity and the pursuit of happiness, making our community a perfect place to gather in
celebration of our wonderful nation!
Morgan Hill has a small-town ambience and feeling of community. Our residents are engaged and involved, working
passionately to accomplish community goals that will improve an already great community. Residents really treasure
and support our annual Fourth of July “Freedom Fest” celebratory series of events, exemplifying all that is great about
Morgan Hill. On behalf of the Morgan Hill City Council, I am proud to welcome you to this year’s celebration of
Independence Day. I believe you will enjoy the events as well as our community.
Freedom Fest is produced by the community volunteers of Independence Day Celebrations. They spend many
months preparing the varied and entertaining menu of events for you to enjoy. They showcase the spirit of volunteerism
that makes Morgan Hill such an enjoyable community. We appreciate their signifi cant contributions to make the
holiday so festive and fun.
Events kick-off July 3 with the Patriotic Sing at the Community Center Amphitheater. It is a real gem, you will
meet exuberant Morgan Hill youth who will not only entertain you, but charm you as well. After the Sing, move up
Monterey Road a couple of blocks to our thriving downtown for the Family Music Fest, it will have entertainment
for all ages. Rise early on the 4th to run the 5K on the parade course. The grand Parade commences mid-morning,
starting with a Classic Car Cruise. At sunset, fi reworks follow entertainment at our Outdoor Sports Complex. They
are truly spectacular!
We encourage visitors to Morgan Hill this holiday to get to know us, enjoy our home-town atmosphere, and
visit our parks, shops, restaurants, wineries, beautiful back roads and other amenities. Have a safe, sane and very
enjoyable holiday!
Sincerely,
Steve Tate
