Each year , Independence
Day Celebration brings the Freedom Fest events to Morgan Hill in recognition of the July Fourth holiday . Our dedicated group of patriotic community-minded volunteers have worked closely together over the past decades , making us feel more like a big family . United , we share a common vision , an ideal of how to serve our community .
This year promises to be special . As we observe
Independence Day 2015 , we celebrate the land of the free and the home of the brave in a way that acknowledges something uniquely American — “ The Great American Road Trip .”
Americans have long held a fascination with automobiles . Our culture is immersed in automobiles and automobile travel . Our Interstate Highway System , which originated in 1956 to serve the military in case of emergency or invasion , gives us the freedom to travel relatively quickly and easily from state to state . Each summer , thousands of families take to the road to see the wonders of our great country . Others travel for business or to visit family or move to a new home . On smaller highways and roads , Americans travel in groups or alone , on motorcycles , cars and RVs just to see what is around the next bend .
I am no different . I love to drive , travelling by car exploring America . My fascination began young with family road trips from our home in Ohio to neighboring states to visit family . When we moved to California , we traveled across country by car towing a U-Haul trailer and looking forward to a new life . I can still see the lights of Denver as we came over the mountains . As I started to drive myself , my first job was making deliveries for my father ’ s company . This led to delivering cars across country . I learned to love the road for sights and sounds , places and people . Living in California , we have a different sense of driving than most of the country . From my hometown of Dayton , one could travel through three states in the time it takes for us to get from Morgan Hill to the Nevada border — the shortest distance out of California . Then again , we are blessed to have diverse and beautiful destinations in California . Any way you look at it , if you like the road , then America has many beautiful places to see and a way to get you there .
Though different , they all share a similarity that we find here in Morgan Hill . With the busy life we lead today , my wife and I seldom find our way out of Morgan Hill . Not a bad thing , though , as we take weekend drives around the local area . We enjoy the fact you can be in a city setting one moment then in a rural setting the next . Plus if you are going to stay around home , Morgan Hill is definitely a great place to be .
The IDC family invites you and your family to join the Morgan Hill Freedom Fest events as we celebrate “ The Great American Road Trip .”
