Tierney, and the hours of preparation he and Herr
put into every scene. “Andrew and I are really close.
We lived together before we filmed Mr. Hockey,
we play hockey together, there’s really kismet at
work when it comes to our chemistry. But with the
writing of these characters, we learn the lines inside
and out and spend 4-5 hours breaking down scenes
so we can nail them come filming time.”
This discipline and dedication to hard work
and improvement, which he has applied since his
original role as a hockey player have fueled Playfair’s
growth as an actor, and helped him land the role of
Gil in Disney Channel’s recent smash hit “Descen-
dants 2,” an action-packed adventure movie about
the kids of Disney’s most famous and notorious
characters. Gil is the son of Gaston, the villain in
Beauty and the Beast. Like all of his roles, Playfair
spent hours preparing, learning some new dance
moves and putting his all into the role.
“I’ve been super lucky to get to play roles in all differ-
ent genres – from a kids show to a horror movie, from
hockey roles to musicals,” Playfair acknowledges. “I’ve
only been acting for 6 years, so I’m thrilled not to be
pigeonholed into one type of role.”
