FRAGMENTS Volume 3 | Page 21

How do you keep up with what's new in the beauty/fashion world?

Technology makes it so much easier to keep abreast of current trends in the beauty and fashion world, with one click you can check out what's hot and what's not. I also like to read hard copies of magazines such as Vogue, Tatler, Vanity Fair, Wonderland etc. With regards to fashion, working with young designers and working at LFW is a great way to see the trends before they happen. I have a new beauty blog which is set to launch called 'Beauty Back Chat' where, among other things, I'll be talking about new products on the market and my opinion of them.

What is your favourite beauty trend of the S/S13 season?

This S/S season there have been a lot of bright eye colours spotted on the catwalks. My next front cover model makeup look for the Spring edition of Invite magazine, of which I am a beauty writer and hair/makeup artist, has been inspired by this trend. It's too easy to stick to more conventional colours but you can use bright colours at any age, it just depends on the intensity and application!

What else inspires your work?

I’m influenced and inspired by so many different things; a conversation with someone, something in a book, a tune, a shop, museum, exhibition, piece of clothing. People I work with can also become sources of inspiration.

Is there any one makeup artist whose work you admire?

Makeup artists such as Alex Box, Pat McGrath and the late but great Kevin Aucoin keep me striving to improve and develop to the best of my ability. It's all about continual professional development and I'm lucky that I have the opportunity to attend regular free master classes with artists who are at the top of their game internationally. In terms of brands, I think the makeup of both Chanel and Dior is always on trend, and they produce such amazing products.

What's your favourite part of your job?

Making someone feel and look their very best, whether it’s for a magazine, wedding, TV or fashion show, is by far my favourite part. What’s more, I never tire of the buzz of a live advent.

How did you decide how to style the girls makeup for the FS Alfa Romeo shoot?

Obviously this was a team effort, which included a lot of discussion with Kelly, the Creative Director, and careful consideration of the outfits and setting of the shoot.

Lastly, what’s your need-to-know tip?

Make sure that powder doesn't settle into lines by pressing, not wiping, it on to the face with a velvet puff, and dust off any excess with a fluffy brush.

Sandra has styled both the intro and Alfa Romeo shoots for FS this year, as well as providing the makeup for the FS2013 show.
