In the year of its 600th anniversary the University of St Andrews has never been in a stronger position. Quality teaching and recent investment in facilities, as well as the great social side of St Andrews, are reflected in high rates of student satisfaction. It is no surprise to see huge demand for places from across the globe and universally high standards of entry.
Such success makes the 600th anniversary fundraising efforts even more important. Increased tuition fees and high living costs, particularly in private accommodation, mean that St Andrews is a very expensive place to study. Widening access through scholarships and bursaries must therefore be a priority and in tackling this issue our University is on the right track. Accusations of elitism lack grounding as the University strives to increase its intake of students from poorer backgrounds.
A key part of this effort is the Wardlaw Undergraduate Scholarship Programme, which the St Andrews Charity Fashion Show is extremely proud to be supporting. We hope not only to celebrate 600 years of our University, but also to unite current students, alumni and friends in both St Andrews and London in fundraising. Let us come together and give others the chance to study at an ancient and truly great seat of learning.
This issue of FRAGMENTS shows the fantastic progress this years Alfa Romeo Young Designer Award finalists are making towards exhibiting their collections. We also feature our most recent photoshoot, in partnership with SWAROVSKI.
I look forward to welcoming you to the show in two weeks time!
