Fr. Richard Henkes, S.A.C., A Picture of His Life A Picture of His Life | Page 42
In the Nazi era, Father Richard Henkes pro-
claimed the message of Jesus Christ fearlessly
and convincingly to mankind. As a Pallottine
Priest, he had made a name for himself as a
preacher and retreat master prior to his arrest.
Fr. Henkes saw the injustice and crimes of the
Nazis and condemned them as sins against
God. In 1943 he was arrested by the Gestapo
and sent to Dachau concentration camp where
he died from an infection on February 22,
1945 after ministering to those quarantined
with Typhus.
On September 15, 2019 Father Richard Henk-
es was beatified by a decree from Pope Francis.
Father Alexander Holzbach, S.A.C. (born
1954) comes from Westerwald (Germany),
home of Fr. Richard Henkes, S.A.C. As a
child, Fr. Holzbach became acquainted with
the Pallottines in Limburg, and he has been a
Pallottine Father since 1981. He has directed
the editorial offices of the Pallottine maga-
zines “das zeichen” and “Pallottis Werk” since
the mid-1990s. Before he became rector of the
Provincialate in Friedberg (Bavaria) in 2011,
Fr. Holzbach served for six years as rector of
the Pallottine house in Limburg. He is also
province consultor of the Heart of Jesus Prov-
ince.
