Fr. Richard Henkes, S.A.C., A Picture of His Life A Picture of His Life | Page 32
raments of Viaticum and Anointing of the Sick. It remains a mystery
how he came to Block 17. Fr. Henkes, who had stood by many in their
last need, who secretly brought Holy Communion to many, should
not die without spiritual assistance. Was he still aware, despite his
weakness and fever? What happens at such moments in the soul of a
human being?
Is there still faith in God, which Fr. Henkes mentions in all his
letters from Dachau? Is he still praying his favorite daily prayer, a text
by Fr. Rupert Mayer, that fits perfectly into Henkes’ spirituality as he
lived and preached in his active years?
Lord, as you will, shall it be done unto me.
And as you will, I will go.
Help me understand your will.
Lord, if you will, it is time;
And when you want, I’m ready,
Today and forever.
Lord, what you will, I will take,
and what you will is my gain.
Enough that I am your own.
Lord, because you will, it is good;
And because you want it, I have courage.
My heart is resting in Your hands.
