12. With all fasteners removed, the individual
components can be pulled away from the body.
They will be cleaned, prepped, and hung up for
repainting.
13. Another judgment call. The original front
fascia had accumulated plenty of scars and a
tear or two underneath. Fix or replace? The
fascia could have been left on the car and
repainted, but removing it is not that hard. NPD
offers new replacements inexpensively (less
than $120), and we were going to replace the
yellowing headlights anyway, which is much
easier with the fascia off. Unplug all lightbulbs,
remove the series of bolts behind the fender
and the screws from underneath, and the
fascia will pull off.

14. Urethane parts also get a wet bath with
Bleche White, followed by scuffing with a red
ScotchBrite pad.
15. After the ScotchBrite treatment, a final
sanding with 400- to 500-grit sandpaper
readies the surface for paint.
16. Parts hang in the paint room and then get a
final dusting with a tack cloth.

17. Peter applies the Deltron 2000. If the parts
are going to sit more than a day, the paint will
need some flex agent to prevent cracking when
the parts are installed. These will go back on in
less than 24 hours, so no flex agent will be
added. After the red color coat, they get a coat
of PPG 2042 clear.
18. The results speak for themselves. The gloss
is back, and the once-shabby ’93 no longer
looks like a forlorn Fox. From here, the makeover
will continue. Look for other installments in
future issues of FOX Mustang Magazine.
