Editorial
It was in April 2006 that I first launched fotoii.com, a website devoted to photography. Showcasing the work of talented photographers from around the world, it has
now been seven years since we have served as an online community and virtual exhibition space. As exciting and wonderful as this enterprise has been, however, we wanted
something more – the printed page — a classic format that has, for decades, proven to
be one of the best ways of presenting photographic images to a wider public. With Fotoii
Mag, everything — from the paper stock to the page layout, to the text — will be in service
of the image and the image alone.
As you will see over the following pages, Fotoii Mag really runs the gamut of photography, showcasing photographers who not only come from around the world but who
also and perhaps more importantly given the hyperconnectivity of our world, take radically different approaches to their medium.
This, our preview issue, will give you an idea of the scope of our editorial vision with
our three featured photographers coming from Switzerland, Spain, and China and whose
works may be described respectively as conceptual, documentary, and fashion.
Virginie Otth is a Swiss artist whose “Internal Dimension” series of conceptual
still lifes continues her exploration into and questioning of the photographic medium and
concept of perception.
Txema Salvans is a Spanish photographer whose chilling documentary photographic essay, “The Waiting Game”, depicts prostitutes plying their trade along the highways
of the Mediterranean coast. Kiki Xue is a Chinese photographer whose sensitive approach
to his subjects reveals their inner beauty and, not incidentally, expands our understanding
of fashion photography.
With this and future issues, we hope to share our passion for photography with
you, our reader. Fotoii Mag will be published six times annually. Every two months we will
explore various subjects and feature photographers from around the world. In addition,
we will keep you updated with the latest photography-related activities. So please join us
on this journey in which you will discover photographers who are truly passionate about
their work.
We do hope you enjoy discovering this preview issue of Fotoii Mag, and would like
to thank you for subscribing and supporting the work of the photographers and Fotoii
Mag team.
Yours truly,
Marcel Boner
