Finals saw some of the sickest rail riding ever to grace NZ, riders were
pulling out all the stops to one up each other in a crowd friendly
format that gave each rider the ability to size up the competition and
reach into their deep bag of tricks to pull out the goods in order to
crown them the 2012 Winchfest Champion.
The efforts of all riders went down a treat with the attentive and
appreciative crowd - exposing the sport of wakeboarding to a new
audience. The battle royal came down to a matter of points that saw
the injured but fearless Josh O’Connell just clinch the win, and fill his
pockets with the lion share of crisp unmarked bills.
After dominating in practise and qualifying sessions - Brad Smeele was
left standing in 2nd place wondering what could have been, while the
crazy Swede Carl Petterson took out a well-deserved 3rd place to wrap
up the podium placements.
