Forward Movement Magazine SUMMER ISSUE 2016 | Page 4

EDITOR’S letter GOD BLESS AMERICA For most Americans the 4th of July is about fun, fireworks, and a day off from work. Cities across the United States are painted “Red, white and blue”, and you can always find a parade and a decent barbecue. With all of the parties and gatherings I feel we often times lose focus of what and WHO we are celebrating. We started to prepare this issue keeping the story of our nation in mind and noting it could not be told without the voice of those who have been at the frontline. Those who have fought tirelessly year after year, protecting us, and staying vigilant in ensuring our country’s security. For the Summer issue of Forward Movement, we wanted to highlight some of the amazing men and women who have served, and are currently serving our country. Our Forward Movers are not only veterans but have dedicated their lives to fitness by helping others reach their fitness goals. Our beautiful cover girl, Melody Decena Wyatt who currently serves in the Army National Guard as a Sergeant, shares what boot camp was like, her struggles, and her personal fitness journey. In this issue we also wanted to share a few topics that you won’t find in your everyday fitness magazine. I know that when I first started my own fitness endeavors I was very curious about steroid usage. I kept hearing and reading about it, and really just wanted to understand what exactly these drugs did. Not that I was going to shoot up anytime soon, I really just wanted to learn more! Working with so many athletes in the industry, I felt the need to carry the knowledge not to be left totally in the dark. We also discuss addiction, in it’s many forms, and how fitness can aid in recovery. I am especially excited to share this issue because we have put together work from many different photographers, writers, and contributors. I am very thankful for their hard work, and so happy to provide this platform. We hope that you take a moment, read the interviews and articles, and find inspiration, knowledge, and support. And most importantly please join us in thanking our amazing heroes not only featured in this issue, but those all around us. Happy 4th of July! Audra Oden // EDITOR-IN-CHIEF [email protected]
