STRIVE adventures !

In Term 1 Mr Wildman ’ s Year 7 Historical Mythbusters class learnt about the origins of humans . Science teacher , Mr Lumbus was invited to present to the class on the evolutionary process and the features of hominid skulls . This was followed by a lively Q & A session where Mr Lumbus also dispelled some common hominid myths ! The students were fascinated by the collection of skulls and busts of hominids and primates on display .
Mr Wildman and Mr Stenner ’ s Year 8 Medieval History class showcased their projects during the week – realistic scale replicas of some of the world ’ s most iconic medieval castles !
The effort devoted to these projects is commendable , and the attention to detail is absolutely stunning , some even included a real moat and lights . The project is designed to help students learn about and appreciate medieval architecture , warfare and history . A great effort by the Year 8 students involved .
Students in Mr Wildman ’ s Year 9 Tactical and Strategic Thinking class participated in a practical exercise in Term 2 . The exercise was a simulation of a giant wargame between two teams of six on a 3 x 3m board . The activity is designed to teach students strategies of tactical warfare in an interactive and unique way .
To end the term , Mr Wildman hosted an All-Stars vs Old Hands wargame . Students also got to see Mr Minchin in action – a true maverick !

Becoming work-ready

During May , General students in Years 11 and 12 participated in an eight-day ‘ Work Readiness Workshop ’. The first of its kind to be offered at Guildford Grammar School , the workshop was an opportunity for the students to learn about the world of employment and discover many aspects of life beyond school . Topics included the barriers to employment and how to overcome them , effective communication and interview skills , emotional intelligence and effective time management .
The workshop was highly interactive , with many opportunities for participation whilst learning from an experienced trainer .
During the workshop , students were able to discover their areas of strength and learn that there are many and varied opportunities for them to study beyond secondary school to help them reach their goals .
