SCHOOL LIFE

National Boarding Week 16-22 May

National Boarding Week is one of my favourite times of the year . It is an opportunity for us to reflect and celebrate the unique community and lifestyle our students enjoy , and to showcase our talents and values .
The week kicked off with a hard-fought Volleyball match between the senior girl boarders and the day girls , resulting in a 36-29 win for our girls . On Tuesday , it was AFL , and our senior boy boarders defeated the valiant day boys by three goals ( 35-19 ) to make the Boarder ’ s team undefeated for six years in a row !
On the Wednesday , our Year 12 Boarding Prefects cooked up a delicious sausage sizzle in front of our new Boarding House and we managed to raise over $ 400 for the Royal Flying Doctors Service . We also used this event as an opportunity to allow day students to visit the new Boarding House and the turn out far exceeded my expectations . It was so heart-warming to see our boarders showing off their new house to their friends in the day
school , and in doing so developing stronger ties between our whole school community .
The celebrations were rounded off with a quiz night in the Dining Hall and the boarders invited a teacher , mentor , tutor or coach who is making an impact on their journey here at GGS . We had nearly 20 staff members join us and it was lovely to hear their comments of the spirit and camaraderie we have in our community .
The whole week was a reminder of just how special the people in our boarding community are and what an incredible place it is to be involved with . From our residential and non-residential staff to our parents and guardians , and most importantly to our students , Guildford Grammar School boarding is truly an amazing place to be .

World ’ s Greatest Shave

Congratulations to everyone involved in the World ’ s Greatest Shave for the Leukaemia Foundation held in March . The Senior School students had fun practising their ‘ creative ’ haircutting skills on their peers !
Thank you to all our families for your generous support in helping to raise almost $ 25,000 , smashing our goal of $ 20,000 !

Ultimate Frisbee Showdown

As an initiative this year , our staff faced the students in the inaugural Ultimate Frisbee showdown ! This student-led fundraising event will supported those affected by the bushfires earlier this year . Thank you to Brayden Fernandes ( 12Sc ) for his initiative in driving this cause .
Both teams met on Chapel Close during lunchtime in what proved to be an entertaining event for all . A contentious point by the student team late in the match led to a photo analysis , which proved they were out-of-bounds ... ultimately resulting in a 2-1 victory for the staff team .
Our thanks to go the those who participated and spectated , donated and , of course , to the students who led the initiative for what is such a worthy cause .
