SENIOR SCHOOL

Cultural tour of

Malaysia

On 15 April , 2019 , 33 intrepid musicians , dancers and media students boarded a plane to travel to Kuala Lumpur , Malaysia . The mood on the plane was expectant ( if a little tired ) as the aircraft departed the terra-firma of Perth to start on its journey northward .
After a brief stop in Singapore , most of us made the short trip to Kuala Lumpur . There was , however , no rest for the wicked as we performed our first concert , a public concert on the concourse level of the Berjaya Times Square , that very evening .
During the eight days of the tour the students worked , played , shopped and ate together in what was undoubtedly one of the most successful tours in recent history . The musicians and dancers performed exceptionally well in all of their concerts and the media crew were consummately professional in their filming of our events , as well as filming a small corporate documentary for our hosts , the Dorsett Hotel Group .
As well as the Berjaya Times Square performance , we also performed events at the Da Men Mall , the Intermark Mall , the Dorsett Hotel and the Mandarin Oriental Hotel at an Old Guildfordian ’ s Association function .
As a part of the tour the students visited many cultural and entertainment venues , including the world famous Batu Caves , Batik workshops at the Kraftangan Village , Petaling Street Markets , Sunway Lagoon and Cosmo ’ s Theme Park . The students were also kept busy with a spot of retail therapy – part and parcel of staying in the Golden Triangle region of the city . Whilst the most popular items to buy seemed to be headphone and air-pods , the Starbucks was also very popular !
A huge thank you to all of the students and staff who came on tour and to all of our newfound Malaysian friends .
