Interview with the Prefects

As they enter their final year of school , we asked some of our 2019 Prefects to reflect on their time at the School and what they will take away with them when they graduate .
Nicholas Sheppard – Co-Captain of School
What is your greatest memory as a student of Guildford Grammar School ? My greatest memory would have to be when Henn ’ s House won the Athletics Carnival this year . It was an admirable effort from all year groups , with no shortage of talent and the results coming down to the final relays , pushing the House over the line .
In one sentence , what does Guildford Grammar School mean to you ? Learning to be something bigger than yourself .
How has Guildford Grammar School impacted you ? I think Guildford has impacted me in many ways , in particular I would say I have found the immense value of mateship . I have also found a deep understanding of the importance of being both reliable and accountable as characteristics that make a person someone that Mr Swan would call a “ good bloke ”.
What do you think you will miss the most after graduating ? There is nothing I will miss more than standing on that field or court with my team during a Saturday morning sports fixture .
What is your proudest moment as a student at Guildford Grammar School ? I can ’ t think of a prouder moment than being a Year 8 student and watching the big boys take out the Alcock Cup in 2015 after a long 57 year drought .

What is your greatest memory as a student of Guildford Grammar School ? For me the greatest memory was the Guard of Honour last year for the Year 12 students . I found it to be a very powerful day for me because those students were like mentors to me and helped me to find my way in my first year at the School . When saying goodbye they were so supportive and wished us good luck . It was so memorable and I am so grateful for that .

In one sentence , what does Guildford Grammar School mean to you ? A community that enables you to belong and interact whilst still continuing to be yourself .
How has Guildford Grammar School impacted you ? It was definitely hard to move to a new school but for me it was the right decision and it has impacted me in the sense that I have been able to build a connection with my teachers and have the confidence to ask for extra help , also building a bond with students in the Houses and students across all year groups .
What do you think you will miss the most after graduating ? Just seeing all the students around the School , not only my friends and students in my year but students in the other years too .

I will also miss the culture around the School and attending Chapel and Congo .
What is your proudest moment as a student at Guildford Grammar School ? To be given the opportunity to be the first Co- Captain of the School with Nic . I have enjoyed having the opportunity to share my ideas with the School and develop leadership skills .

What is your greatest memory as a student of Guildford Grammar School ? My greatest memory of Guildford would be our Year 12 Prefects ’ Ball , which was an enjoyable event that I will cherish forever .
In one sentence , what does Guildford Grammar School mean to you ? To me , Guildford is my second home , the place where I have spent and enjoyed a large part of life .
How has Guildford Grammar School impacted you ? Guildford has opened me up to the whole world , providing opportunities to extend myself and do the things that I love and enjoy .
What do you think you will miss the most after graduating ? I think that I will miss the general camaraderie shared with many of my friends and mates in my year group , and some of the other year groups .
What is your proudest moment as a student at Guildford Grammar School ? My proudest moment as a student was when I was elected as a School Prefect .
