SENIOR SCHOOL
I have also learnt to get everything ready the night before because I have so much to pack and bring every day !
Before I started at Guildford Grammar School I was a little nervous about making friends , learning about a new place and my teachers , but it has been brilliant . I loved my last school but there are more things here for me to do .

Sean

Sean ( 7SG ) New to Guildford Grammar School
I have loved Guildford Grammar School so far . The transition to this school was a little tough but it helped a lot to have a warm community around me . I tried not to think about losing some friends , but this school helps a lot , making it easier to adjust . Making some friends on the first day really did make a difference for me .
With Guildford ’ s after school sport , it got really tough . But I persevered and worked hard to manage the different routines . This school has given me lots of new opportunities . I didn ’ t think I would play chess but I am now going to try out to be one of the three people in Year 7 St George ’ s House to participate in the inter-house chess tournament .
I was very excited and nervous to come to this school . Now though I cherish every moment . My favourite subject is HASS , it has been so much fun . I have found it hard and sometimes a bit tedious but the teachers help make it easier and interactive .
The assessments we have been doing are much easier for me to focus on and get the grades I want and need . I have enjoyed working on them and presenting them to my teacher .

Josephine

Josephine ( 7Sc ) I really enjoyed the Bush Dance because I was allowed to invite my friend from my old school , Chelsea , she loved it and met my new friends . We all got along and I felt really proud .
I found camp brilliant because I got to know everyone more and there were different students from those I know from my classes . I also became more confident chatting to everyone and I laughed a lot !
In the first week the boys were really nice to me and I know how much they were trying to make me feel welcome . I did get lost a few times but they helped me to find my way around . The senior girls in my locker room have been so caring and I really appreciate them . They are Olivia , Ellen and Eleanor .
The organisational skills workshop was good fun and I liked that mum could come along as well . I like the note-taking paper that the school gives us , which along with study cards has helped me to improve my note-taking .
So far this year I have learned that I love to try new things and to ask people if I need help . People are always so helpful . I know not to worry about the unknown ; just ask and move on . Dr Harris , Mr Lawson , Mr Hurley , Mrs Finnie , Mr Cheah , Mrs Boehm and Miss Patriquin have all really helped me .

I love the little Tuck Shop , the warm library , the hockey field and most of all my House – School House . My dreams of learning Chinese , riding horses and playing music pretty much every day have come true ! I had to believe that coming to Guildford Grammar School was the right choice for me , but deep down I was pretty nervous . I am so happy that it feels right for me . I have made new friends and I have lovely teachers and amazing surroundings .
There have been lots of highlights during my first term : 1 . Math – my teacher demonstrates really clearly , especially multiplying fractions .
2 . Science – the experiments are fun . I loved the elephant toothpaste because it shot up in the air and was really funny ! 3 . English – Mr Allen ’ s life recounts have been cool ! 4 . Music - using the software to make loops with different instruments . 5 . HASS – incursion and reenacting the
1967 Referendum . 6 . RE – watching the Story of Moses and writing my metaphorical story . 7 . LGD – scratch is sensational , I loved making my game . 8 . Media - filming and editing with all sound effects and special effects .
9 . Chinese – writing the Chinese characters – my favourite are numbers and family .
10 . Health / PE – making our own games and getting to play my game with the whole class . I tried hockey for the first time , despite being worried that I wouldn ’ t be able to play as well as the rest of the team . I shouldn ’ t have worried as I scored my first goal ! My team mates , Mrs Finnie and Ms Kappelle are really helpful and encouraging .
We have Old Guildfordians who come to the library after school during the week to help with homework , which has been helpful . I also like being part of the Book Club .
Lastly I was very proud to take part in the Retro in Swan concert , playing in the orchestra for the first time on the double bass . I was very proud and felt like a real musician , entertaining the audience .
