SENIOR SCHOOL

My transition into Senior School has been surprisingly smooth . It took me a few weeks to get used to going from class to class but I enjoy it now . However , my favourite thing about Senior School is the House rooms . I love that I can go there before and after school and do my homework and play table tennis and pool at recess at lunch . I am pretty good at table tennis and I like playing it before school when I arrive . It is particularly fun beating Mr Lumbus because he is also really good at it and he gets angry when he loses ! It is just so much fun .
I also like the freedom we are given . Even though you are in a House , you can still visit other Houses and talk to your friends . It really gives you a sense of freedom . I also like the idea of House fundraisers . An example was the recent Freeth House sausage sizzle . It is a good idea to raise money for charities by doing something as simple as a sausage sizzle .
The teachers at Guildford Grammar School are really kind . Although there are lots of different teachers , they are all kind in some way and I like that . My personal favourite is Mr Wildman . His classroom is bright and colourful and he is super kind and funny , often surprising us with little quizzes at the start at the lesson . All my teachers at Guildford Grammar School have been generous in their own way . Some are smart and help me a lot , and some are funny and make school funny .
PSA sport is one of my favourite things , I love playing sport on a Friday afternoon . In my opinion , it is the perfect way to end the week . Although our soccer team has been beaten for the last few weeks we are improving and I have fun . I can ’ t wait for Term 4 so that I can play tennis again .
Overall , I have really enjoyed my first term at Guildford Grammar School .

One of the things I have enjoyed most about my transition into the Senior School is the six periods a day , because there are a lot of different subjects in high school and that means lots of different classes , which is cool . Another aspect I enjoy is learning about things I didn ’ t know before , so I have a wider knowledge . I thought I knew a lot before I started at Guildford ! It has been a bit confronting realising I have so much
I struggle with making friends sometimes , but with some of the most amazing kids here I have made some great friends easily .
more to learn , it ’ s actually exciting ! I was a bit nervous on my first day at Guildford Grammar School , coming from a different and very small primary school where I knew everyone , but everyone was so welcoming and nice to me .
I have learned a lot about myself during my transition to Year 7 at Guildford . I am not as smart or as good at sport as I thought I was , because at a big school like this one there are more people that are smarter or more skilled than me , but that motivates me to be better . I struggle with making friends sometimes , but with some of the most amazing kids here I have made some great friends easily . I can enjoy myself a lot because it is an interactive school with lots of fun subjects and great teachers . It is great having House areas because at recess and lunch I can play table tennis or pool , and sometimes it ’ s nice just to know that I have a space to chill if I need some time out . I have also learnt that I have to push myself outside of my comfort zone to be the best I can be and I already feel like I ’ m making some improvements .
My feelings about Senior School have changed for the better over time . I was scared because I thought I would be lonely or that I would get lost in the big school , but in the first few weeks we had a lot of support to help us find our way around the school , so it didn ’ t take too long to get used to . With the grounds being so big I can ’ t forget it ’ s so amazing ! Sometimes good things come in BIG packages and the benefit of having such big grounds means we have space for lots of different sports and co-curricular activities that smaller campuses wouldn ’ t be able to accommodate .
There is a lot of work and sport and I am slowly getting better at managing my time and energy . It is a lot different to primary school because of changing classes for each subject , and all the extra sport and PE , but now it is normal because I do it every day and I think I would be lost without it .
I have a few favourite subjects , like Maths , because I like the formula of maths and there is a right and a wrong way to get the answer . English is also great because I have an amazing , fun teacher . J ’ adore (“ I love ” in French !) French because I seem to be a natural at it but I ’ m also loving the challenges as it gets more difficult . Art is awesome because it is a really fun , different co-curricular subject . I now also love science . I didn ’ t like it in my first term but I had an amazing and fun teacher and I now seem to be good at it !
I enjoy how interactive the school is , with things like homework help available if we need it . It is also challenging , which is good because it pushes me to be better and gives my brain a workout ! There are also many amazing teachers who help me and give me great feedback .
In summary , my transition from primary school to high school at Guildford Grammar School has been amazing , and I have to pinch myself every day to realise this isn ’ t a dream anymore ; it ’ s reality , and I am so lucky to be part of this amazing school .
